I really want to go to medical school and become a doctor, I'm only 15 now, and have spend the last 6 months doing everything I can to get my grades up to at least all As - GCSEs next year!
We have to do a week's work experience in July, and I have been told that at my age it can not be done in medicine.
Is this true?
If so, what would people recommend for someone wanting to go into medicine?

Hi matt - welcome to the site - im glad to hear of your passion and commitment towards medicine.

Your job as a 15 year old is to get involved with anything you enjoy and that improves your CV. If you are too young for work experience, I would advise volunteer work, wherever and whenever you have time. It doesn thave to be medicine related, just anything at all to do with charity work. Fund raising, helping the elderly, hospital radio station.

Anything where you are showing you are volunteering your time for something you believe in and build up team working skills, will be excellent for your future in medicine.

I hope others can offer nuggets of advice!
all the best!

Hey Matt,

I agree with what the scrubdaddy says. He is my master!
Nah only kidding but his advice is spot on. thats exactly what you should be doing. I have a feeling that i might have done work experience in a hospital at 15 or 16 but not sure. If you're been told you cant then that might be the case. Consider ringing the local hospital MEDICAL PERSONNEL department and asking them. I you have any links at the hospital or know any doctors then you could ask them if they can help you out. You could also consider doing work experience at your local GP practice or with Hosp Radio etc. If you cant do any medical type work experience then do something which involves working with a team and working with the public.

Cheers
